Bogotá D.C March 2023. Bogotá was selected as part of the Smart City Expo World Congress- SCEWC circuit, a world-class event that brings together business leaders, governments and the most innovative organizations to move cities towards a better future. The Colombian capital will be one of the cities to host an SCE Abroad edition in 2023, along with cities such as Shanghai, Doha and Curitiba.

With a 12-year history of bringing together experts and gurus from the industries that work to make smart cities, the event will drive Bogotá in its desire to become a benchmark Smart City in the Andean region, addressing issues such as public innovation, smart technologies , energy and environment, urban mobility, sustainable territories and economic development.

Faced with the SCEWC calendar for this 2023, Ricard Zapatero as CEO of Fira Barcelona International, confirmed that, for this 2023, we will carry out Smart City Expo in seven different destinations; in Doha (Qatar) where we will celebrate the third edition of the event, for the fourth time we will be in Argentina, it will be the third time for Shanghai (China), the eighth edition in Mexico (Mérida), the edition in the USA this year will host the event for the third year and the city of Curitiba (Brazil) celebrates its fifth edition. Of course, we will continue with the realization in the house where this event was born, in Barcelona, Spain. And for the first time, we will be in Bogotá."

Under the motto "Cities that care, cities that innovate", Smart City Expo Bogotá will be held in Corferias from May 31 to June 2, where an exhibition area will be presented with 60 leading entities and companies in the development of programs, new technology projects and products at the service of smart cities. The event will have the participation of more than 70 speakers within its academic agenda.

WHY AN EVENT ON SMART CITIES?

The Smart City Expo World Congress comes within the framework of a global situation in which large cities must prepare to take on the challenge of caring for their citizens, since, according to the World Bank, currently around 56% of the world's population—4.4 billion people—live in cities. By 2050, it is estimated that the urban population will more than double, by which time almost 7 out of 10 people will live in cities.

"We are in charge of bringing together experts and great references in urban innovation so that they can present their knowledge in a forum in which authorities, government authorities, companies, entrepreneurs, technicians and, in general, each of the actors that influence building smart cities. We are the stage for cities to be seen internationally and to be recognized for caring for their citizens” stressed Zapatero, CEO of FIRA Barcelona.

And it is that being a smart city requires working on several fronts: the preservation and care of the environment, infrastructure, mobility, security, sustainability, waste management, and the commitment of all to solve the problem of citizens, are some of the premises that a city must comply with to achieve the distinction of "Smart city"; a path that must be followed hand in hand with technology as an ally to connect citizens with the different services designed by the government and the private sector.

The capital of Colombia drew the attention of FIRA Barcelona International, organizer and creator of the Smart City Expo World Congress, for its commitment to improving the quality of life of its citizens, identifying that the local and national government have been working on innovative initiatives within the cities.
