According to HID, the Security Industry is Adopting Mobile Credentials, Biometrics, and AI, Based on Its New Trends Report.

AUSTIN, Texas, February 11, 2025 – According to HID’s 2025 State of Security and Identity report, organizations facing an increasingly complex threat environment are making strategic shifts toward unified platforms and emerging technologies. This in-depth study, based on insights from 1,800 partners, end users, and security and IT professionals worldwide, reveals a significant transformation in how organizations are addressing security challenges. The report particularly highlights the increasing adoption of mobile credentials and artificial intelligence as key drivers of innovation in the industry.

"The security industry is at a pivotal moment where integrating modern technologies with existing infrastructures is no longer optional—it is a necessity," stated Ramesh Songukrishnasamy, Senior Vice President of Engineering at HID. "The fact that 73% of security management leaders are now prioritizing software-based unified solutions shows that we have moved beyond traditional, compartmentalized approaches where each security system operated independently. Today, organizations demand platforms that can scale according to their needs while also providing actionable insights for decision-making."

Here are some of the key findings from the report:

Significant Growth in the Adoption of Mobile Credentials and Biometrics, Signaling a Shift Away from Traditional Access Methods
The rapid expansion of mobile credentials— highlighted by 61% of security decision-makers as one of the industry's top trends— reflects a clear move toward more modern solutions. Nearly two-thirds of the organizations surveyed are either implementing or planning to implement mobile solutions. Simultaneously, demand for biometric technologies (such as facial, fingerprint, and iris recognition) is also growing: approximately 35% of respondents already use these technologies, while 13% plan to adopt them, revealing significant growth potential in this segment.

Increasing Demand for Unified Security Management Solutions to Optimize Operations
As organizations diversify their security technologies, many security managers (67%) are taking steps to adopt software-based security solutions. Additionally, 73% of respondents indicated that unifying multiple data collection methodologies would be “moderately important” or “very important” for their organizations.

Strong Preference for Open Platforms to Enable Efficient Integration
In recent years, interoperability has become synonymous with progress in the security industry—a trend that continues to gain momentum. More than half of security professionals consider open solutions to be “extremely” or “very” important for their organizations.
Strategic Shift Toward Converged Platform Solutions Instead of Relying on Standalone Products
Nearly two-thirds of organizations, along with 73% of integrators and consultants, are witnessing a shift toward software-based security solutions that integrate physical and digital functions (such as video surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection) within a more unified platform.

Significant Transformation of Distribution Channels Driven by Digital Innovation
The security industry’s distribution channels are undergoing a major transformation, fueled by digital innovation. While 77% of channel partners believe they are adapting well to these changes, increasing end-user demand for artificial intelligence, cloud solutions, IoT integration, and advanced analytics is redefining expectations for solution providers. To remain competitive, channel partners must continuously evolve and adapt to the new market demands, keeping pace with the digital transformation impacting the security industry.

Rapid Adoption of AI Agents to Optimize Security Operations
The adoption of AI agents is accelerating in the security sector to enhance operational efficiency. Use cases are rapidly expanding in areas such as access control, identity management, video surveillance, and security management platforms. Two of the top benefits cited by respondents regarding these technologies are increased efficiency and speed in security processes (50%) and improvements in real-time data analysis capabilities (47%).

Sustainability Remains a Key Factor in Security Decisions, Provided Budgets Allows.
75% of security decision-makers consider sustainability in their selection process for new solutions. However, for most organizations, sustainability is not the determining factor, as security and cost- benefit remain the top priorities for 80% of integrators and consultants.
