At Createx 2025, proposals for sustainable solutions for the textile and clothing industry will be presented
The Colombian textile industry is preparing for a new edition of the Createx trade fair, a well-established event that is now in its seventh year as a meeting place for the national fashion ecosystem and countries in the region. The textile and apparel industry exhibition is the venue for connections around inputs, technologies, machinery, textiles, and specialized services for the manufacturing of finished products.
The event, which will take place at Corferias from June 11 to 13, will open its doors to new trends in the textile and apparel sector. This sector, immersed in the dynamics of an increasingly globalized world, faces significant challenges that demand greater commitment and solidarity with the planet. In particular, the textile industry is experiencing a crisis related to waste management and low recycling rates, highlighting the urgent need to adopt more sustainable practices.
According to UN data, the fashion sector is responsible for between 2% and 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, as well as significant impacts on pollution, water extraction, and biodiversity, including 9% of annual microplastic losses in the oceans, while consuming 215 trillion liters of water annually.
Therefore, the sustainable solutions provided by exhibiting companies such as Portela, Tesk, Icoltex, Disportela, and Ruben Macias will be highlighted at this fair. They will present proposals such as the use of recycled materials, organic cotton, and dyeing processes with reduced water consumption.
In addition, other companies present at Createx are innovating with technologies such as dry dyeing, sustainable denim production, and the use of renewable energy in their factories. These initiatives not only minimize pollution and textile waste, but also contribute to transparency and social responsibility within the industry.
In this regard, Marcela Rangel Rico, Corferias project manager for Createx, highlighted the importance of sustainability in the Colombian textile industry: "Adopting good practices in resource and waste management are essential for the health of the planet, and these efforts by companies generate savings that, when monetized, positively impact the finances of companies in the fashion system."
Furthermore, internationally, by 2025, new trends are bringing a boom in the use of sustainable fibers, such as organic cotton, hemp, linen, and regenerative wool. However, for experts, the real revolution comes with biodegradable and bio-based fibers, such as those made from algae, bamboo, and agricultural waste. These alternatives not only reduce the carbon footprint but also minimize the environmental impact by being completely biodegradable at the end of their life cycle.
